Crikwater

"Born in the rustbelt Irish American neighborhood of South Buffalo, NY in 2010, Crikwater have become the premier Irish American Traditional Folk Band in Western New York, appearing numerous times at both the Buffalo Irish Festival, South Buffalo Irish Feis and Expo, & most recently the Hornell Irish Fest. Boasting four multi-instrumentalists and an energetic live show, Crikwater stays true to the venerable Irish and American folk traditions with arrangements that include multi-part vocal harmonies and intricate musicianship. The pub-scene veterans offer up a mix of fiery fiddle tunes, rowdy pub sing-a-longs, elegant ballads & original songs, and their music conjures scenes of gritty smoke filled Irish pubs, whiskey, pints of stout, and good craic."

Dave North Trio

Dave North, and the Trio

Dave, who hails from Slough in England (near London) has an amazing repertoire of traditional, modern, comic, and just plain obscure songs that make any evening spent listening to the "Trio" an enjoyable one. Marc plays the base and the banjo, while Dianne is a whiz on the fiddle. Fred, of often joins the Trio has a blues guitar style that won't quit, and when he brings out his slide guitar, the audiences are enthralled. Dave himself plays the guitar.

Four piece Irish group with fiddle, accordian, bass, guitar, mandolin, bodhran and banjo playing lively instrumentals and sing along pub songs.

Poor Ould Goat
Poor Ould Goat ignites the room from the opening notes of a reel or the first words sung of an Irish pub favorite. The band’s combination of rousing music and merry attitude has made them favorites of the old and young. The band plays a combination of traditional and contemporary Celtic music, sea chanteys and original songs in a spirited way. The songs sound simultaneously traditional and unique, regardless of the origin or era. Poor Ould Goat has played shows for crowds from three to three-thousand, always making even the largest events seem like “a favorite Irish pub”, with sing-a-longs, banter, dancing and of course toasting. The “Goats” know how to have great times and can draw any size crowd into their merriment. The music and revelry make every Poor Ould Goat show, “a night not to forget”.

The brain child of Kirk McWhorter formerly of the critically acclaimed Celtic band Kilbrannan, Penny Whiskey promises to offer the best in acoustic music from both Ireland and Scotland along with home grown bluegrass and folk influences.

The foundation of 'Penny Whiskey' is the melodic vocals of Kirk, who also plays guitar, banjo, bodhran and whistles, backed up by the solid playing of Jon Carlson on acoustic & electric guitar. The quartet is rounded out by Dan Lelito on bass with Paul Kneis supplying the *flash* on mandolin, guitar and flute - and of course, everybody sings... including the audience!

With audience participation songs, rousing pub sings, comedy tunes and tearful ballads, 'Penny Whiskey' offers something for everyone.

Setanta

Setanta is a small group of traditional Irish musicians who met playing music in pubs here in Western New York. Although the band itself is fairly new, the individual musicians are well-respected in the Irish music scene and perform frequently at area pubs and festivals.

Gregor Harvey came to Buffalo in 2007 from Boston, MA, where he was a fixture of the thriving Irish session scene. He performed regularly at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton, MA, and with his trio, Bedlam, and performed at the enormously popular Irish Connections Festival every year. In Buffalo, he has performed in countless venues as a singer, mandolin player, and guitarist. He has six studio recordings of Irish, Scottish, and English traditional music to his name, a master’s degree in guitar performance, and 25+ years of experience as a singer and mandolin player.

Mark Warford has been a staple of the Buffalo Irish music scene for many years. He cofounded the session at Nietzsche’s pub, the only weekly Irish music session in the area, 15 years ago. He was the anchor of the long-running First Thursday session at the Shannon, which sadly closed its doors this year, and with various groups and many other musicians he has performed widely and frequently in Western New York.

Maureen Bluett has been playing Irish music in Western NY for several years. She plays regularly at area Irish music sessions, as well as performing for ceilis (dances) and Contra Dances with Resistance is Futile, Abanalan and Setanta.

Tim Benson is a multi-instrumentalist who became interested in Irish music after involvement in the Ulster Project during his teen years. He plays fiddle, pipes, flute, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and anything else you can throw at him! Stephanie Benson is a highly accomplished fiddler, as well as an avid hockey player and a mom. Since 2006, Tim and his wife Stephanie have specialized in building Irish uilleann bagpipes.

Rush the Growler
Rush The Growler are relatively new to the local folk scene, having assembled their current line-up in early 2010. Their unique blend of Irish, American, and Canadian folk songs have been entertaining audiences around western New York ever since. The name comes from an old expression meaning to send out to the pub for a bucket of beer. It's with this idea in mind that the band strives to make every show a party. So sit back and relax, we'll rush the growler.

Doc & Bill

John "Doc" Hamels and Bill Drellow have established a strong following among Irish music aficianados in Chautauqua County. The pair have melded their collective musical experience (Doc's an old rocker and Bill's an unrepentant folkie) in their interpretations of the musical stylings of legendary Irish folk groups, particularly Makem & Clancy. Although they respect and take the music seriously, they don't take themselves seriously, as anyone can attest who has been exposed to their loopy song introductions and stage banter. (Now accepting applications for a roadie willing to schlepp their 4-, 6- and 12-string guitars, Irish bouzouki, long-neck 5-string and tenor banjos, and mandolin - for the experience.) bill@drellow.com; 716-969-2563.

O'Braca
We are a local ethnic band...we play many genres, Irish being one of them. Our band members have played together in various cobinations over the past 40 years. We play for summer festivals around town...last year we were the featured band at the St. George's Niagara Falls 3 Day Mediteranean Festival. We are also on the Deerhead Inn's rotating Monday Night Acoustic Night schedule....Kindred plays there also.

Our website www.adriaticbraca.com Booking Info/mp3 page has sample Irish mp3 songs and our Irish song list. Also, a more detailed bio, pics, and video's can be found at the site.
